Upper Mustang Trek (19 days)

Jomsom (2743m.), a dry landscape, is also known as new port. From Jomsom, Nilgiri (7,061 m) and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) are visible. Despite numbers of fights being scheduled to Jomsom, going there largely depends on the weather conditions. Accommodation is not a problem in Jomsom as there are many hotels and lodges.

‘Thakalis’ are the locals of Jomsom. They are believed to be hard working. From the very beginning, locals of Jomsom were and are engaged in trade. Jomsom is also popular for its apple production.

Kagbeni is a 4hr trek away from Jomsom. It is a gateway to Upper Mustang. Kagbeni is a remote village in the Himalayan region. Tourism and agriculture are major wellsprings for Kagbeni.

Lo Manthang is the capital of Mustang. Hiking, photography, sightseeing, trekking are major excitements about visiting Lo Manthang. The path to Lo Manthang is combination of steepy rocks and desert like places. Namgyal Gompa (3910m.) and Tinggar Gumba (4025m.) are major attractions of Lo Manthang. During clear weather, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse,Mt. Khumbila, Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Kusum Kangaru, Mt. Tashi Lhaptsa, Mt. Nangbala are visible from Syanboche.

After two weeks in the Himalayan region, trekkers will descend down to Tatopani. Tatopani, literally meaning “hot water” in Nepali is a hot water spring. Locals here believe that a bath in the spring will help to cure bone and skin diseases.


Day 01: Kathmandu – by tourist bus to Pokhara

Day 02: Pokhara – By flight Jomsom & trek to Kagbeni 4hrs / 2810m.

Day 03: Kagbeni – Chhusang 5-6hrs / 2980m.

Day 04: Chhusang – Syangboche 6hrs / 3809m.

Day 05: Syangboche – Ghemi 5-6hrs / 3510m.

Day 06: Ghemi – Tsarang 3-4hrs / 3560m. 

Day 07: Tsarang – Lo Manthang village “capital of Mustang region” 5-6hrs / 3810m.

Day 08: Visit Lo Manthang’s village and discovery

Day 09: Lho Monthang to visit Namgyal Gompa 3910m., Tinggar Gumba 4025m. and return to Lho Manthang 5/6hrs of walking
Day 10: Lo Manthang – Ghemi 6-7hrs / 3510m.      

Day 11: Ghemi – Syanboche 5-6hrs / 3809m.
Day 12: Syangboche – Chhusang 6hrs / 2980m.

Day 13: Chhusang – Jomsom 6hrs / 2720m.

Day 14: Jomsom – by jeep/bus to Tatopani “hot spring” and half day rest 4-5hrs / 1190m.

Day 15: Tatopani – Ghodepani 7hrs / 2840m.

Day 16: Ghodepani – Hike to Poon hill 3192m. for panoramic Annapurna, Dhaulagiri & Manaslu ranges and after Breakfast trek to Tadapani 6hrs / 2630m.

Day 17: Tadapani – Ghandruk Gurung village 4-5hrs / 1940m.

Day 18: Ghandruk – walk an hour and drive by jeep to Pokhara

Day 19: Pokhara – by flight/tourist bus back to Kathmandu
