Amphulaptsa pass (5845m) Island Peak (6189m)

The Amphu Laptsa Pass is a difficult pass with the characteristics of a classic expedition. The pass is located in the Khumbhu region. The major attractions of this area are its old civilization, monasteries and the welcoming Sherpa people of the region. The high Himalayas play a major role in attracting tourists.

The Island Peak (6189m.), located in the upper Imja Valley, is also known as Imja Tso. Despite the difficulty, due to the steep climbing, the hike to Island Peak is a popular one. From the Island Peak, splendid views of Makalu, Lhotse and Ama Dablam can be enjoyed.

The Island Peak is an extension of the ridge coming down off the south end of Lhotse Shar. The first ascent to Island Peak was made in 1956 by a Swiss team.
