The Amphu Laptsa Pass is a difficult pass with the characteristics of a classic expedition. The pass is located in the Khumbu region. The major attractions of this area are its old civilization, monasteries, and the welcoming Sherpa people of the region. The high Himalayas play a major role in attracting tourists.
The Island Peak (6,189 m.), located in the upper Imja Valley, is also known as Imja Tso. Despite the difficulty, due to the steep climbing, the hike to Island Peak is a popular one. From the Island Peak, splendid views of Makalu, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam can be enjoyed.
The Island Peak is an extension of the ridge coming down off the south end of Lhotse Shar. The first ascent to Island Peak was made in 1956 by a Swiss team.
We will take an early flight towards Lukla from Kathmandu which will take 25 minutes. We will meet the crew members and start walking trail towards Tsuthenga Village.
We will climb steeply upwards to reach Zatra La Pass and cross it carefully. The top of the pass offers stunning views of Himalayas and valleys. Then, we descend towards Thuli Kharka for the overnight stay.
We will walk downhill and then climb gentle uphill for 6 hours in total to reach Kothe Village.
We will walk through the forested landscapes and also ascend through the narrow and quite peace roue towards Thangnag. We will walk for 5 hours today.
Today, the trail goes steeply upward through the rocky ridge of the cliffs towards Khare.
We will take rest for one day in Khare to acclimatize our body and to overcome ourselves from altitude sickness. We can hike upwards the hill located near from Khare.
To cross the high pass, we will begin walking early in the morning and ascend up to the top of the pass. The top offers spectacular scenery of high mountains. Later, we will descend to Khongma Dingma Camp to stay the overnight.
We will be walking above the 5,000 meters which will be quite challenging and thrilling. We will cross the snowy rocks and glaciers to reach the Seto Pokhari.
We will walk another 5 hours through the snow and rocks to reach the Amphu Laptsa Base Camp.
We will cross quite challenging Amphu Laptsa Pass to reach th Imja tso village located at an altitude of 4,985 meters. It will take 5 hours to cross the pass and reach Imja tso Camp.
We will climb south then turn east to the main line of the valley to reach Island Peak Base Camp. We then walk on a winding path below the southern flank of the moraine from the Lhotse Glacier.
We will take training on peak climbing techniques and the proper ways of using climbing gears such as the ice axe, climbing boots and crampons, harness, ascender, etc. The training will also include using ropes to go up and down.
We will start our climbing at around 2 am in the morning. It is important we reach the summit before noon because in the afternoon the strong winds in the highlands might become a barrier for a successful summit.
After enjoying the summit views and taking pictures, we descend all the way to Island Peak Base Camp
We will start descending continuously towards Dingboche.
We will pass several Sherpa Villages and walk through the hillside covered with rhododendron and juniper forests.
We will explore the Tengboche Monastery earlier then walk descending through the forested landscapes to reach Namche Bazaar.
We will walk through the Sagarmatha National Park and follow the Dudh Koshi River to reach Lukla.
We will take an early flight to get back into the Kathmandu Valley.
