The Chola Pass-Kalapathar trek is the amalgamation of a hike to Everest viewpoint, visit Khumjung village, climbing Gokyo Ri, Chola pass, Gorakshep and hike to Kalapathar.
The Chola Pass-Kalapathar trek is one of the adventurous treks among the numerous treks in the Himalayas.
Lukla from Kathmandu is an attraction backed up by the scenic mountain flight before the trek. An acclimatization hike to the Everest viewpoint fulfills the dream of trekkers to experience the arresting sight of Everest. The hike to Everest also comprises a visit to the Khumbu valley. A popular Sherpa village, Khumjung is situated in the Khumbu Himalayan region.
The next charm of the trek is an early morning climb to Gokyo Ri (5,357 m.). From Gokyo Ri, we will descend down to Dragnak to cross the Chola pass (5,368 m.) which will lead us to the Gokyo Lake. World-famous peaks Everest (8,848 m.), Makalu (8,463 m.), Lhotse (8,516 m.) and Cho Oyu (8,201 m.) can be seen from the Gokyo valley.
Gorakshep and an early morning hike to Kalapathar (5545m.) is the next charm of the trek. Gorakshep is the easiest route that leads to Kalapathar. Kalapathar literally means ‘black rock’ in Nepali. Kalapathar is one of the most popular spots among trekkers as it serves as the most obliging point to the highest peak of the world. Apart from Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kantenga, Pumo Ri, Lhotse, Kantenga, Nuptse, and Changtse also can be viewed.
We will take an early flight from Kathmandu Valley to Lukla Airport (2,860 m). In Lukla, we will meet our crew members then start trekking towards Phakding (2,610 m) along the bank of the river for 3 hours.
We will cross the suspension bridges over the rivers several times until we cross Imjatse River. Then, we will climb uphill to enter into the Namche Bazaar (3,440 m).
We will have one hour hike to Everest View Point above the Namche to capture the sunset view. The view point offers spectacular views of Nupse, Lhotse, Ama Dabalam, and Mt. Everest. We will also hike to Khumjung Village to explore the ancient culture of the locals.
We will trek for 6 hours through steep climb and gradual route to reach Dole Village.
We will follow the very scenic path to Pangka and then go downhill slowly crossing the melted- rivers. Then we will climb a steep rocky route to enter into Gokyo Valley. (4,790 m)
We will climb uphill to Gokyo Ri wich offers wonderful view of stunning Mt. Everest, Cho – oyu, Pumori, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Cholatse, and many high massifs. Then descen back to Dragnak for the overnight stay.
Today, we will coss the adventurous and hardest pass of the Everest region i.e. Cho La Pass. I t is mostly covered with blue ice which gives trekkers chill feelings. Later, we will descend towards Dzonglah (4,830 m) and stay overnight in tented camp.
We will follow the trail which leads us towards Khumbu Glacier. After crossing the glacier, and walking uphill and downhill one after another to reach Lobuche.
With splendid outlooks of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Pumori and many high massifs we will continue walking towards Gorakshep (5,140 m).
We will begin hiking towards Kala Pathhar View Point (5,545 m) to grab breathtaking moments of sunrise coming beyond the top of snow-capped peaks. The viewpoint offers spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho – Oyu, and many more. Later, we will descend back to Lobuche for the overnight stay.
We will descend back to Tengboche from Lobuche. We will walk for 6 hours today.
We will descend back to Namche Bazaar Village crossing different villages and forests.
We will hike around the Namche Village in the morning then climb uphill towards Lukla Airport.
On our 14th day of our journey, we will fly back to Kathmandu.
