The Helambu trek is a short trek to the high-lands of Nepal.

The Hyolmo and Helam people are the major inhabitants of Helambu. The Hyolmo people are of Tibetan origin, however, they look like Nepalese and the Helam people are originally Nepalese. Tamang and Sherpa are the major ethnic groups found in Helambu. The culture of these people and their lifestyle is an add-on to the natural beauty of Helambu.

The view of thick forests decorated with snow-capped mountains on the top is typically the view of Helambu. The Lantang, Jugal, Ganesh and Gaurishankar peaks are seen during the Classic Helambu Trek.

Helambu is also famous for sweet apples.

We will walk past a small hydroelectric plant and also enter the area of Shivapuri National Park after some time. We will continue to walk past the first settlement of the area Mulkharka inhabited by the Tamangs. AS we cross this village and walk past the trails through Oak and Rhododendron forest we will reach Chisapan. Overnight at Chisapani.

Today we continue our trek as the trail continues to fluctuate and crosses meadows and fields to Pati Bhanjyang. Pati Bhanjyang is a Brahman and Chhetri village on a hull at the bottom of the ridge at 1860 meter. From his village, the path starts to elevate on a series of steep switchbacks to Chipling (2170 m). At the upper end of Chipling, the trail makes another steep to the top of the Jhogin Danda ridge. From this ridge, the trail drops through the forest to a large chorten overlooking the Tamang village of Gul Bhanjyang. Gul Bhanjyang is a charming, classic hill village with a delightful main street. Overnight in Gul Bhanjyang.

After breakfast, we will follow the trail that leads to Thadepati. First, we follow the trail that is sheer and drives us to the point where no settlements are detected. We will be able to observe the magnificent view of the majestic Himalayas from this point. We will walk to reach Thadepati after witnessing the beauty. Overnight stay in Thadepati.

The trail continuously descends through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests with excellent views down into the Helambu valley and beyond Jugal Himal and Numbur in the Solu Khumbu. Thadepati is the pass where there is a joint to either trek towards Ghopte or Melamchi Gaon. After passing the Chhyadi Khola on a suspension bridge, the trail makes a quick last ascent to the flourishing Sherpa village of Melamchi Gaon. Melamchi Gaon at the elevation of 2530 m is surrounded by beautiful forests and is mainly inhabited by Sherpa people with their unique culture. Overnight in Melamchi Gaon.

Today we will trek to Tharkeghyang where the trail will first descend continuously as we pass the Melamchi river. Then we will continuously ascend passing the Sherpa settlements. We can observe the majestic Himalayas through the trails along with the magnificent monasteries of this region.
